The Tamandua is a species of anteater inhabiting the tropical regions of South America. These slow, casual creatures live mostly among the trees, unlike their much larger cousins, the Great Anteaters, who live mostly on the ground. Tamanduas harvest ants and termites by making certain not to destroy an entire colony, thus letting the colony revive and grow until it can be harvested again. During the day, you will find these small animals, about two feet long and about 15 pounds, sleeping in forked branches. They use their long, strong tails to always have a firm hold of something so they don't fall, but this slows them down greatly. Tamanduas are also related to Sloths and Armadillos.
